| The
British 41st R t. of Foot sent three Companies of Regulars accompanied by Militia and
Indians. The Indians were led by Tecumthe, Walk-in -the-Water and Marpot. The 41st was led
by Major Muir. The total force numbered about 500 men. They landed at Brownstown and
quickly began marching north. They arrived at a site that Major Muir thought would be easy
to defend and a good ambush site. Arriving at Monguagon about an hour before the
Americans, Muir pushed his men to work quickly. He posted the 41st on a rise in the middle
of the road. He ordered the soldiers to lay on the reverse slope and pile logs and rocks
in front of them. Soon the Americans where visible coming south. Muir let them get close
and cut loose with volley. The Americans did not run as had been expected but stood and
fired back. It was Snellings Co. acting as the vanguard for the US Troops. |
